Who we are

JG Music Lessons is the business name we use to operate this United States-based website. We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy.

What personal data we collect & why

We collect personal data to process transactions, provide account features, improve our services, and understand how the website is used. Depending on how you use the site, this may include:

Name, email address, and contact details
Billing or shipping address, payment information, and transaction details
Technical information such as IP address, browser or device information, cookies, and website interactions
Information submitted through forms, quizzes, embedded content, and comments
Account and membership details, saved lessons, Song Library selections, and practice information you choose to save

We may use this information to:

Process orders and payments
Respond to support requests, complaints, or refunds
Detect and prevent fraud
Create and maintain your account and simplify future checkouts
Maintain your shopping cart while you browse. Abandoned-cart tracking and recovery emails are currently disabled.
Send an email inviting you to review an order if you choose the optional review invitation checkbox at checkout
Meet legal, accounting, and tax obligations
Improve our shop, lessons, membership experience, and website
Send marketing communications when you have consented or when applicable law otherwise permits them

Membership and product usage data

Account features store information you choose to save so you can return to it later. This may include your saved Guitar Roadmap place, Practice Blueprint Pro worksheet, and Song Library records.

For Monthly and Yearly Pro memberships, we also keep limited information about how you use these features. For example, we may record when your Pro access begins, when you first save a Roadmap place, update your Practice Blueprint Pro, add a song to your Song Library, and when you most recently make a meaningful change in one of these features.

We use this information to understand whether members are getting started with Pro, improve onboarding and the membership experience, provide support, and improve our services.

These usage records contain dates and basic usage information rather than copies of your notes, goals, worksheet text, or song contents. Software may compare saved information during a save to determine whether something changed, but we do not routinely analyze the meaning of your private practice content for this purpose.

This information is available only to authorized site administrators and remains within our WordPress system and existing hosting environment. It is separate from the third-party website analytics described below and does not add cookies or browser tracking.

Legal bases for processing

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the legal basis depends on what we are doing with your information.

Contract: for purchases, accounts, memberships, and delivering products or services you request
Legal obligation: for required tax, accounting, and other legal records
Consent: for marketing and non-essential tracking where consent is required
Legitimate interests: for security, fraud prevention, support, and reasonable business administration where your rights and interests do not override those interests

Comments

When visitors leave comments, we collect the information entered in the comment form, such as name, email address, and comment content. We also collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent to help detect spam.

We may use a hashed version of your email address with Gravatar. You can read the Gravatar privacy policy here.

Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid including embedded location data such as EXIF GPS information. Visitors may be able to extract location data from images they download.

Cookies & tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for login sessions, shopping carts, site functionality, analytics, advertising measurement, and optional saved comment details. A newsletter-subscriber cookie may also help prevent repeated signup popups.

Examples include:

If you leave a comment, optional cookies may remember your name and email for up to one year.
A temporary cookie may be used to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is deleted when the browser session ends.
Our configured login-cookie expiry is 30 days. Logging out removes login cookies.
We track recently viewed products and maintain shopping-cart contents while you browse.
The newsletter-subscriber cookie is configured to last for up to one year.

Cookie choices by region: We use country-level location detection to decide where to display our cookie banner, including in the EU/EEA and United Kingdom. This lookup uses a MaxMind GeoLite2 database stored on our server. Visitor IP addresses are not sent to MaxMind for this lookup.

Where the cookie banner applies, you can accept, reject, or choose optional cookie categories. Google Analytics is installed through Google Tag Manager, and both are blocked until you allow the Analytics category in those regions. Advertising consent is controlled separately through the Marketing category.

Where available, you can use the privacy preferences icon to change your choice later. Your cookie preference is stored for 30 days, and we may keep records of consent choices for up to 12 months to demonstrate and manage those choices.

In regions where the cookie banner is not displayed, including the United States, Google Analytics may load without a banner choice. Google advertising storage, advertising data use, and personalization remain denied unless the applicable Marketing consent is provided.

Third-party tools may use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies after the relevant consent. You can also use your browser settings to block or delete cookies, although blocking essential cookies may affect account access or checkout. Browser controls and Google advertising settings may not stop every form of third-party tracking.

Embedded content from other sites

YouTube embeds are held back until you allow the relevant cookie category or choose to load the content. Once loaded, embedded content behaves as if you visited the external website directly.

Those websites may collect information about you, use cookies, or monitor your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you are logged in to an account with that provider.

Analytics & advertising

We use Google Analytics through one Google Tag Manager installation to understand how visitors use the website, including Roadmap click measurement.

Where our cookie banner applies, these tools load only after you allow Analytics. Outside those regions, Google Analytics may load automatically.

Google advertising storage, advertising data use, and personalization remain denied unless you allow Marketing through the consent controls where available.

Pinterest product synchronization remains enabled. Pinterest conversion tracking, Conversions API, and enhanced matching are disabled.

These tools may process technical information and website interactions to measure visits or purchases and support advertising, even when we are not running a paid advertising campaign. You can manage Google advertising preferences through Google Ads Settings.

Who we share your data with

Our material service providers include Hostinger for hosting, Stripe for payments, MailerLite for newsletter signup and subscriber management, Brevo for website email delivery, and Google and Pinterest for the analytics, tagging, and advertising functions described above.

These providers process information needed to perform their services.

Our WordPress website also uses WooCommerce for orders, Ultimate Membership Pro for accounts and subscriptions, Forminator for forms and quizzes, Hustle for promotional displays, FAZ Cookie Manager for cookie choices, Sassy Social Share for sharing buttons, and Wordfence and WP Armour for security and spam prevention. These tools do not all represent separate external recipients of your data.

Review reminders use Customer Reviews for WooCommerce (CusRev) in self-hosted mode. Review invitations require your optional consent at checkout, and email-open tracking is disabled.

YouTube processes information when embedded videos are loaded. Social media, affiliate, and other external destinations apply their own privacy policies.

Password-reset emails may include your IP address. Forminator processes information you submit through forms and quizzes. Website email logs may retain message details for delivery troubleshooting.

International processing

We operate in the United States. Your information may also be processed in other countries where our service providers operate. Data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

Where applicable data-protection law requires safeguards for international transfers, appropriate safeguards are required. Contact learn@jgmusiclessons.com for information about providers, processing locations, or transfer arrangements relevant to your data.

Newsletter, emails & marketing

We send marketing emails when you have consented or when applicable law otherwise permits them. Transactional emails about your account, purchases, membership, or support requests are separate from marketing.

We use MailerLite for newsletter signup and subscriber management. The newsletter option at checkout is optional, unchecked by default, and configured for double opt-in.

You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time using the unsubscribe link in each marketing message or by contacting us. You can also withdraw your consent. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop essential service emails about your account or purchases.

Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy.

Account, membership, and saved practice information is retained as needed to provide your account features and access to purchased services or resources. Order and payment records may be retained for tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, dispute, and legal-compliance purposes.

Support messages and technical logs are retained according to their support and security purposes. Marketing information is retained for permitted communications until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent. We may keep limited suppression records so we can continue honoring an unsubscribe request.

Unpaid pending and failed WooCommerce orders are scheduled to move to Trash after 30 days. We do not automatically delete inactive accounts or anonymize completed or refunded orders because some records may still be needed for account access, purchases, legal obligations, or other purposes described in this policy.

We keep Pro usage dates with your registered account after a membership is cancelled or expires so your membership history can be preserved if you switch plans or rejoin. They are not automatically removed when Pro access ends.

These usage records are included in our personal-data export and erasure processes and are removed from the active WordPress database if your WordPress user account is deleted. If these records are erased while your account remains active, future qualifying Pro activity may create new records.

You can contact us if you have questions about how long information related to your account is retained.

Your rights over your data

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to:

Request a copy of your personal data
Request deletion of your data, subject to applicable legal obligations
Withdraw marketing consent or object to certain processing
Request corrections or updates to your information
Request restriction of processing or a portable copy of your data, where applicable
Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority, including an EU supervisory authority or the UK Information Commissioner where applicable

To exercise these rights or request account closure and deletion of your personal data, contact learn@jgmusiclessons.com. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify your identity.

Where the GDPR applies, we respond without undue delay and normally within one month of receiving your request. If a permitted extension is needed because of the complexity or number of requests, we will notify you within the first month and explain why.

If we cannot grant all or part of a request, we will explain the reason and any applicable complaint rights. Certain records may still need to be retained for legal obligations or legal claims.

Canceling a subscription stops future renewals and allows Pro access to continue until your plan expires. Account closure and data deletion are separate requests and may end account access. If you have an active subscription, we will clarify the requested closure date and billing status before completing account closure.

Children’s privacy

JG Music Lessons offers general-audience guitar education and is not directed specifically to children under 13.

Parents or guardians should manage accounts, purchases, and newsletter signups for children under 13. Children under 13 should not create their own accounts or submit personal information through comments, forms, quizzes, or signups.

If we learn that a child’s personal information was collected improperly, we will take steps to delete it and address the collection. A parent or guardian can contact learn@jgmusiclessons.com about a child’s information.

Affiliate marketing

JG Music Lessons is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program that allows websites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com. We may earn a commission when qualifying purchases are made through our affiliate links.

When you follow an affiliate link, the destination website may collect information and use cookies under its own privacy policy. Affiliate providers may use identifiers to attribute a purchase or referral. Their privacy notices explain their practices and available choices.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices, legal requirements, or website features change. The date at the top of this page shows the latest update.

Where required, we will notify you of material changes and obtain consent for new uses that require consent. Continuing to use the website does not, by itself, constitute consent to uses that legally require your consent.
